REPLACING THE NEEDLE The ionization process produces a small bead of plasma at the tip of the needle, which you can actually see as a dim pinpoint of light in a darkened room. Over time, this plasma can wear down the sharp point of the needle. The amount of negative ions produced is directly related to the sharpness of the needle. I have noticed a 20% reduction in ion output after using the same needle for 6 months. Although not terribly crucial, the needle should be replaced about once every two months for optimum efficiency. To replace the needle, simply remove it with a pair of pliers and insert a new one (see figure 5). Make sure, when inserting the new needle, that the eye of the needle is going in vertically. NOTE: Be sure to replace with BETWEEN quilting needles No. 12 only. Inserting anything other than the prescribed quilting needles could damage the needle socket. |
CLEANING YOUR IONIZER Over time you may notice dust build-up along the power cord and on the ionzer itself. Just unplug the unit and wipe clean with a slightly damp cloth. You should also simply wipe clean the tip of the needle at least once a week with a cotton swab. |
