REPLACING THE NEEDLE
The ionization process produces a small bead of plasma at the tip of the needle, which you can actually see as a dim pinpoint of light in a darkened room. Over time, this plasma can wear down the sharp point of the needle. The amount of negative ions produced is directly related to the sharpness of the needle. I have noticed a 20% reduction in ion output after using the same needle for 6 months. Although not terribly crucial, the needle should be replaced about once every two months for optimum efficiency. To replace the needle, simply remove it with a pair of pliers and insert a new one (see figure 5). Make sure, when inserting the new needle, that the eye of the needle is going in vertically. NOTE: Be sure to replace with BETWEEN quilting needles No. 12 only. Inserting anything other than the prescribed quilting needles could damage the needle socket.
CLEANING YOUR IONIZER
Over time you may notice dust build-up along the power cord and on the ionzer itself. Just unplug the unit and wipe clean with a slightly damp cloth. You should also simply wipe clean the tip of the needle at least once a week with a cotton swab.
